An exciting opportunity to join a global medical device manufacturer at their state of the art facility. You will be joining the team as a technical leader for a business that is at the cutting edge of injection moulding technology.
The client:
Our client is located in the North West region of Ireland and employs 2500 staff across several manufacturing facilities in Ireland. Their production facility in County Limerick utilises state of the art technology, across injection moulding, robotics, vision and sterilisation systems.
The site was established in 1995 and originally fitted with six production lines. Over the next 20 years the facility has expanded numerous times and now has over 36 lines manufacturing products that are shipped around the world. Continued expansion of product lines; extensive new product development, as well as engineering and retrofit projects ensure that this growth is sustained well into the future.
The facility is accredited by Engineers Ireland; therefore, the company adheres to best practice in continuing professional development (CPD).
As Staff Injection Molding Engineer, your typical day may include:
Primary responsibility to provide polymer processing and or Advanced Automation engineering expertise for our range of health care products and plastic raw materials.
Also responsible for identifying and implementing innovative engineering technologies, which will deliver highly efficient and cost effective processes and equipment improvements.
· Key to the success of the business is the ability to deliver new, innovative, quality products to our customers in a timely and cost-effective manner. A vital part of this success is the use of our scientific injection Moulding process development approach utilizing six sigma data analysis (Minitab) of molding processes to optimize new raw materials, optical tooling and technologies.
· You will be a lead team member in New Product Introduction and Manufacturing Platform Development projects with specific accountabilities for the areas of equipment and tooling selection as well as process development.
· You will be encouraged and expected to keep up to date on new developments and technologies in the field of Optical Injection Molding and present on new ‘Best Practice’ methodologies, procedures, processes and equipment to the company in a proactive manner.
· To facilitate you in keeping up to date with new technological developments and to maintain / develop molding standards you will be part of a global Injection Molding community within the Vision Care business incorporating R&D and Manufacturing functions.
· In support of existing Injection Molding platforms within the Vision Care business you will lead projects to optimize optical molding processes and cell equipment to facilitate high levels of quality, reliability and capability.
· You will also engage with the appropriate personnel in the identification and resolution of Corrective/Preventative actions to address Quality, Technical, and Manufacturing issues.
What you’ll own and how you’ll grow:
This role is recognized within the organization as being of key strategic importance in terms of enabling the business to remain competitive and grow market share.
You will be responsible for providing technical leadership in the field of Injection Molding with specific ownership for the following:
· NPI Process Development
· Identification and implementation of process related continuous improvement activities to improve product quality and increase Overall Equipment Effectiveness.
· Optimizing optical molding processes and cell equipment to facilitate high levels of quality, reliability and capability.
· Engage with the appropriate personnel in the identification and resolution of Corrective/Preventative actions to address Quality, Technical, and Manufacturing issues
· Perform planning, development, facilitation of design and installation of Injection Molding equipment, automation transfer systems and processes.
· Project Management and co-ordination of Multiple Projects in parallel in a matrix environment.
· Provide troubleshooting expertise to resolve Injection Molding equipment, systems and process problems using strong statistical methodology
The Person:
· You will have a minimum qualification of Level 8. B.Sc. or B.Eng. honours degree in Materials/Polymer Science or Plastic/Mechanical/Process Engineering with a proven track record of delivering results.
· Green/Black Belt Certification preferable but not essential.
· You will have a passion for Process Development with a strong background in systematic problem solving and data analysis techniques.
· You enjoy working on your own initiative while also possessing the collaborative and influencing skills to be a key lead contributor within cross functional teams.
· Injection Molding is a key core competency in our business and as such you will be looked to for technical leadership in the continuous effort to improve existing processes, develop new processes and improve equipment performance.
